For more than 19 years, the Adopt-a-Student Program has been making it possible for the children of Boyle Heights to attend a quality Jesuit Institution. It is because of the investment our donors make in our mission that we are able to share the following success:

  • 54% of our students matriculate to Catholic High Schools; of those who attend Catholic High Schools, 98% continue on to college.
  • We have 50 alumni who are currently attending LMU, USC, Santa Clara, Cal Poly Pomona, and UC Irvine – just to name a few.
  • More than 85% of our kindergarten class arrives at DMS speaking little to no English. Innovative use of technology, customized learning plans and the addition of a transitional kindergarten have led to students’ improvement with 100% knowing how to recognize and sound letters and numbers.

At least 75% of our families earn below the U.S.  poverty level. In spite of this challenge, our parents value education and the average family contributes $800 annually to their child’s tuition.

How you can help a Dolores Mission Student

$5,400 Adopt-a-Student Scholarship:  A gift of $5,400 provides 100% of the gap in funding needed for Dolores Mission School to educate a student following the student family’s contribution and the support provided from the Catholic Education Foundation and Archdiocese.

$3,600 Adopt-a-Student Scholarship: A gift of $3,600 provides just over 65% of the gap in funding needed for Dolores Mission School to educate a student following the student family’s contribution and support from the Catholic Education Foundation and Archdiocese.

$1,200 Adopt-a-Student Scholarship: A gift of $1,200 provides just over 20% of the gap in funding needed for Dolores Mission School to educate a student following the family’s contribution and support provided from the Catholic Education Foundation and Archdiocese.

It comes down to needing to raise $5,400 per student each year to keep our doors open in Boyle Heights”.

This is what our students have to say about the Adopt-a-Student Program:

I would like to tell my sponsor: “That they are the best person ever. Thank you so much for your help. Where would I be without you?”
Daisy, 8th grade

I would like to tell my sponsor: “ Thank you for giving me an opportunity to have a Catholic education. Without you I wouldn’t have been able to have a chance to grow in my Catholic faith.”
-Frances, 8th grade

I would like to tell my sponsor: “How grateful I am for them and what a big part of my life they are. I wouldn’t be here making these memories without them.”
-Bianca, 8th grade

The Annual Fund for Dolores Mission School

Gifts to The Annual Fund for Dolores Mission School provide much needed operational support. These donations underwrite the cost of teacher salaries, professional development, technology, program support, and building operations. Twice a year, Thanksgiving and Easter, we send an update of our progress to all of our friends and ask for their commitment to our ongoing mission of educating the children of Boyle Heights as a positive step towards alleviating the elements that lead to poverty. Below is an electronic copy of our latest request for these most important but hardest to raise funds. If you are moved by our work, I invite you to invest today in Dolores Mission School!

Excellence in teaching and programs will ensure our students receive the best education to make them academically competitive with students from better economic areas of Los Angeles.
